Worklife Ventures: Venturing beyond traditional VC

Venture capital can get stuffy and corporate. Worklife is throwing open the windows. The firm invests in tools that power flexible, joyful, and creative work. They called us in to push content that’s as innovative as they are.

How can we push VC content that feels less 👁️👄👁️ and more 😌🍵?

By highlighting surprising stories, spotting trends early, and using language anyone can understand. You know… stuff you actually want to read.

Worklife Ventures began as a marketing exec’s weekend angel investing hobby. Since then, the firm has invested in 9 unicorns and backed more nonbinary, genderqueer, and people in same sex relationships than any other firm. Worklife Ventures is the first venture capital firm designed for the new era of builders, creators, and individual contributors.

The Project

We partnered with Worklife to build its content distribution engine and grow its online web presence. Over the course of 4 months, we’ve grown search from 0 to 3K hits per month, published pieces on founders and future of work trends ranking #1 in Google, and redesigned and restructuring pages to better align with Worklife’s cutting-edge brand identity and SEO.

"We’ve been working with Slam for months now and they have been nothing short of amazing. They are absolute rockstars — super responsive, transparent, upfront, and fast. Their team is beyond talented and they have helped us build a better website that is already ranking for trends we’re spotting, brands we’re highlighting, and stories we’re amplifying. Thank you Slam!"

Worklife

Taking site visits to the next level

When Worklife came to us, they had a ton of editorial-quality startup and founder stories on their site. But the readership wasn’t there. We partnered with them to make their search results work as hard as their founders. Over the course of four months, we optimized blog content and increased Worklife’s site traffic from 0 to 2.4K monthly visitors.

Worklife and Brianne are sharing incredible insights on podcasts and on YouTube. They also know incredible founders who come from untraditional backgrounds and whose stories aren’t amplified in traditional media. We implemented three services to grow Worklife’s community and expand their reach organically: Search-optimized content writing, technical on-page optimization, and interlinking, Slam helped Worklife exceed their goals.

Amplifying founder voices early on

Worklife Ventures is just as interested in writing about the founders building diverse, difference-celebrating teams as they are about funding them. We worked with the team to bring even more impressive stories to their site because soon enough they will be known and searched by the world. Some highlights:

  • Glow Recipe’s BFF to co-founders Christine Chang and Sarah Lee
  • Shuo Wang, Co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer of Deel
  • Power couple and CRWN magazine co-founders Lindsey Farrar and Nkrumah Farrar

Local SEO: Driving web traffic to Worklife Studios (online and on foot)

In-person communities are strengthening alongside digital communities; remote work frees up time to meet neighbors, frequent local businesses, and spend time with friends. Worklife decided to go all in on this trend and opened an IRL space in LA for exclusive events and pop-ups.

We worked with the firm to get the word out about their new space through local SEO; from setting up Google My Business, Yelp, and Instagram location to designing a landing page optimized with keywords.
